The Guitar’s Legacy

ANTONIO SÁNCHEZ

Antonio Sánchez is a fundamental piece in understanding flamenco guitar today.
He is the example of how a new voice must be nurtured and simmered to, once it has reached artistic maturity, present a solid and original soloist proposal.

Antonio Sánchez was born in Madrid in 1984.

In his career, it is noteworthy that he began his journey into the world of guitar at an early age, influenced by his uncles Paco de Lucía and Ramón de Algeciras, as well as his cousin Jose María Bandera. He further honed his skills through his studies with Juan Manuel Cañizares.

He began to work in Madrid in the most important tablaos, as well as in the ballet of Antonio Márquez. He also worked in the tablao of Tokyo (Japan) for 1 year.

Later, he spent eight months at the Tablao Cordobés, in Barcelona, where he was able to meet and work with some of the best top- level flamenco artists, whether in dance, singing or guitar.

He was the second guitarist in Paco de Lucía’s septet, with which she toured the world for four years until the maestro’s death in February 2014.

Antonio has collaborated with leading flamenco guitarists, singers and dancers on stages all over the world.

After more than two decades dedicated body and soul to the flamenco guitar, Antonio Sánchez arrives now with his first album ‘Kavara’, a rounded album full of friendship and family, with a pure and personal sound, compositions that reflect the experiences of the man who, as a child, used to go to Casa Limón to listen to his uncle recording, and who today we can say is the best heir of the ‘paquero’ universe and a great flamenco guitarist.

From October 2024, Antonio Sánchez will start the ‘Kavara’ tour to delight the public live with his musicians and with some of his great friends and world flamenco references such as the harmonica player Antonio Serrano, the dancer Farru, the bass player Carles Benavent or the polyhedric Alain Pérez.
